Forty-five years ago, scientists thought that babies were born virtually blind and had little understanding of the world around them. Today developmental psychologists know that this is not true. At birth, babies recognize human faces as special. Infants younger than one month of age visually track pictures of moving faces over pictures of scrambled faces, and prefer to look at their mother’s face rather than the face of a stranger. Infants even imitate facial expressions. If you stick your tongue out at a six-week-old, they are likely to stick their tongue out back at you!

Aaaaaaahhhh....the first day of school...’tis the season when Mississauga children vibrate with eager anticipation for the school year ahead!  Can you see their excited little faces on the eve of the first day of school?  Can you see them fervently discussing all the new things they’ll learn this year?  Can you see them enthusiastically dreaming up ways to impress their new teachers?

You can’t see them either, can you?  The reality is that even though they’re excited about seeing their friends, they’re nonetheless dreading the end of summer days, and the often intimidating onset of homework and higher expectations. Now don't panic.  You don't have to ride a bike to enjoy this event! This Sunday September 13 is "The Healing Cycle" event in Mississauga. This event helps to raise funds for the palliative care unit at the Credit Valley Hospital. Now no one likes to think about this... but there are kids, right here in Mississauga, who do need palliative care. Two years ago, 9-year old Sarah LeMay asked the Healing Cycle Foundation if money raised by children at its event could be given to children who require palliative care.  Her question lead to the creation of a team of children raising money for other children. Sarah agreed to captain a Kids4Kids Team, knowing that 100% of the money her team raised would go to helping children who needed palliative care assistance from Credit Valley Hospital.
